Purpose: Design, build and operate reliable, scalable platform services that support engineering and simulation workloads across on-premises and cloud environments. The role focuses on delivering well-engineered compute and underlying infrastructure platforms using Linux-based systems, automation, DevOps practices and containerised workloads. Working closely with Developer teams, this role contributes to the operation and continuous improvement of platforms built.
Accountabilities:
- Design, implement and maintain innovative platforms end-to-end for the Technology Campus
- Provide advanced technical support and manage problem escalations from users communicating well and recording in ticketing management system
- Own the existing on-prem and in-cloud platforms and proactively monitor the environment for issues and areas of optimisation identifying and architecting solutions
- Drive automation and Infrastructure-as-Code practices to improve reliability, consistency, and operational efficiency of platform services
- Contribute to platform governance forums, providing technical input, sharing knowledge, and supporting alignment across infrastructure and engineering teams
- Enable efficient and reliable consumption of platform services by internal teams, with a focus on usability, repeatability, and reduced operational friction
Essential Competencies:
- Expert knowledge administering Linux/Unix systems
- Experience in scripting and programming e.g. Python, Bash, Go
- Network knowledge of InfiniBand, MPI and Ethernet concepts
- Awareness of good security practices
- Experience with configuration management and infrastructure as code tools (Ansible, Git, Vault)
- Knowledge of container orchestration tools, virtualisation and observability stacks e.g. Kubernetes, Grafana, Kafka, Docker, OpenStack, OLVM
- Experience working to DevOps practices
