Red Bull Powertrains are offering multiple year-long placement opportunities within our Electronics & ERS Engineering Design teams. In these hands-on roles you will be immersed into the heart of our state-of-the-art Technical and Testing facilities where we drive engineering and innovation to the limit to develop cutting-edge Formula 1 power units. Pushing boundaries is in our DNA!
This placement opportunity will allow you to dive deep into the development process of ERS Electronic components. Successful candidates will have a keen interest in one or more of the following areas:
- Electronic power conversion (DC/DC & DC/AC)
- High speed control electronics (Microcontroller & FPGA)
- Sensor signal conditioning & measurement electronics (Amplifier, Filter & ADC)
- Communication interfaces (e.g. Ethernet, CAN, FlexRay, SPI)
- Battery management systems
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to all stages of the engineering process from conceptual design, through manufacturing reviews, to live testing on our in-house state-of-the-art facilities
- Applying engineering design principles using tools and techniques to develop real Power Unit components
- Supporting the design, testing, and development of electronic components for the Energy Recovery System (ERS)
- Assisting with power electronics design, including high-power inverters, DC/DC converters and control circuits
- Helping build, test, and debug electronic components and systems
- Contributing to the development and improvement of test rigs and software (e.g., LabVIEW, TestStand)
- Creating and updating test procedures for electronic components
- Analysing test data and assisting with fault investigation to improve system reliability and performance
- Preparing risk assessments and following safety procedures to ensure a safe working environment
- Interpreting and reporting data through technical documentation and presenting insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Collaborating closely with all the Technical and Testing teams to deliver world-class engineering solutions
- Gaining direct exposure to the 2027 Formula 1 season and contributing to the future of Red Bull Powertrains

Expected knowledge, experience & attributes of the successful candidates:
- Knowledge and experience from at least one year of undergraduate study on either an electrical/electronic engineering, mathematics or physics degree course
- A solid understanding of engineering principles and the ability to apply mathematical methods to solve real-world problems
- Familiarity with engineering software such as CAD, FEA, CFD, or system modelling (training will be provided)
- Knowledge of electronic design and simulation tools (LTSpice or similar)
- Design and layout of PCBs, including electronic circuit testing, debugging, and validation
- Commissioning and troubleshooting of electronic systems and test rigs
- Experience with handling and analysing data from simulations or physical tests and confidence in preparing high-quality technical documentation
- Ability to break complex technical problems down to fundamental principles and understand the contributing physics
- Ability to demonstrate a genuine passion for engineering through involvement in extra-curricular projects, previous placements, or work experience
- Positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills
- Ability to follow best practice and work on multiple tasks simultaneously
- Excellent communication skills and experience working in a team environment
