Red Bee Media is a world-leading media services company providing technology and creative solutions that help channels, broadcasters, content rights holders and brand owners reach and engage with their audiences in new and traditional ways. In the constantly evolving media landscape, consumers are exerting greater control over the content they watch and how they choose to engage. We are finding innovative ways to enable companies to unlock new revenue streams and build audience share on multiple platforms, including traditional TV channels and on-demand services.

Red Bee Media Content Discovery handles programme schedules for BBC TV and radio channels. Operational listings writers enter timings, synopses and metadata into a custom client database that supplies programme information to electronic programme guides (EPGs), BBC iPlayer, BBC Sounds and a variety of websites, driving multimedia content as well as providing listings. Outstanding sub-editing skills, attention to detail and technical proficiency are an essential requirement.

The role entails staying on top of live programmes and reacting optimally to breaking events in liaison with the Playout editor, updating schedules rapidly when the BBC makes late changes, and responding to queries from Red Bee staff and the client. The work is carried out every day of the year in a shift pattern covering 0800 to 2400.

What you will do:

  • Edit BBC schedules and programme information in a database according to set parameters, ensuring that programme information accords with house style, BBC and OFCOM editorial guidelines and, where appropriate, with client-specific requirements.
  • Evaluate and check programme information by referring to the BBC or authoritative alternative sources to ensure that all information received is comprehensible and accurate.
  • Be the representative of Red Bee Media Content Discovery, collaborating closely with Red Bee Playout staff and BBC schedulers to ensure that EPG information is accurate and up to date.
  • Ensure all late changes are promptly entered into the BBC’s database.
  • Take appropriate action when there are gaps in schedules to ensure that complete listings are delivered.
  • Pay due attention to detail and accuracy, for example, in reading through billings and metadata for completed channels during the QA process.
  • Carry out duties meticulously, and provide detailed written handovers to colleagues at the end of each shift.
  • Collaborate closely with the production manager, operations manager and other team members to ensure the smooth flow of information.
  • Communicate progress to the production manager and handle workload efficiently to ensure that cover is possible in the case of absences.
  • Be aware of and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) as laid down in service level agreements (SLAs) between Red Bee and the BBC, and how they define the relationship with the client.
  • Log and progress issues in co-operation with colleagues in other areas of the company such as Red Bee IT Support.
  • Collaborate closely with the BBC and Playout colleagues, and handle incoming queries politely and efficiently.
  • Keep up with new projects and developments in technology, and assimilate new methodologies and workflows.

You will bring:

  • First-class sub-editing skills, including excellent spelling and attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of media, including on-demand services and the future media landscape.
  • Broad general knowledge.
  • A typing speed of at least 40wpm.
  • IT literacy and an understanding of the significance of listings metadata and its accuracy.
