We are currently recruiting for a Functional Skills Tutor to join a programme based in High Wycombe. Please note: salary scale is £26,228 – £32,083.00 per annum (depending on experience).
The role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs into education, employment, and independence. You will be working with learners aged 16–24 with SEND and EHCPs, supporting them to develop their Maths, English, and employability skills in a practical, real-world context.
The role combines Functional Skills delivery with job coaching, making it a great fit for someone with strengths in either (or both). Each morning, you will typically deliver short, focused Functional Skills sessions (Entry Level to Level 2) in small groups, helping learners build confidence and achieve recognised qualifications.
Following this, learners attend local work placements (such as retail and hospitality settings), where you will support them in developing workplace skills, confidence, and independence. Learners return later in the day to reflect on their experiences, providing further opportunities for coaching and support.
Delivery is a mix of group sessions and 1:1 support, both face-to-face and occasionally remote, with a strong emphasis on adapting learning to meet individual needs. Working hours are typically 9:00am – 5:00pm, with time allocated for delivery, learner support, planning, and administration.
Key Responsibilities:- Deliver Functional Skills Maths and English up to Level 2 in an engaging and practical way.
- Support learners with SEND through tailored teaching and coaching approaches.
- Deliver both group and 1:1 sessions using blended learning methods.
- Support learners in workplace settings, developing employability skills and confidence.
- Carry out initial assessments, create action plans, and track learner progress.
- Manage a caseload of learners and maintain accurate records.
- Contribute to quality assurance processes and meet performance targets/KPIs.
- Adapt learning to meet both learner and employer needs.
- Has experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills Maths and/or English.
- Has worked with young people with SEND or additional learning needs.
- Has experience in employability support or job coaching (highly desirable).
- Can engage and motivate learners in both classroom and workplace environments.
- Is organised, adaptable, and confident managing a varied caseload.
- Has strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A Level 3 teaching qualification (or equivalent) is desirable, but support may be available to gain this if not already held.
