You will be working in a unique ex-offender community hub, which is simply brilliant. It’s a safe space for ex-offenders to meet, see a friendly face, and receive the support they need. They have access to:
- An onsite gym
- Music studios
- Wellness rooms
- Arts and crafts areas
- Weekly doughnut and debate clubs (where support workers discuss the week’s news topics over doughnuts)
- Cooked breakfasts throughout the week (with the clients getting involved)
With all of this in place, the hub provides a fantastic setting for you to support your clients. In addition to participating in the above activities, you will manage a caseload of clients through one-to-one sessions, helping them access housing and benefits, register with a GP and dentist, find training courses, provide light-touch employment support, and develop general life skills such as budgeting, cooking, and wellness. This is exactly how rehabilitation should be done, and the project is truly remarkable.
To apply, you may have worked within criminal justice before, perhaps as a prison officer, resettlement officer, or probation officer. Alternatively, you may have experience supporting people on a one-to-one basis in roles such as a project worker, support worker, hostel worker, employment advisor, careers advisor, job coach, or recruitment consultant.
