About Senapt

Senapt is seeking an experienced Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Trainer to join our team and support the delivery of smart metering training programmes across Africa and the Middle East.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced smart metering professional who is passionate about developing people, delivering technical training and supporting the successful implementation of large-scale AMI projects.

The successful candidate will be based primarily in Liberia, with international travel to support training and project activities across the Middle East and other locations as required.

The Role

As an AMI Trainer, you will be responsible for developing and delivering practical and technical training programmes covering smart metering, AMI systems, meter installation, commissioning, communications, troubleshooting and operational processes.

You will work closely with Senapt's technical and project teams, utilities, field engineers, contractors and other stakeholders to ensure that personnel have the knowledge and practical skills required to operate and support AMI environments effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive AMI and smart metering training programmes for technical and operational personnel.
  • Deliver classroom, workshop and practical field-based training.
  • Train engineers, technicians, meter installers, supervisors and other project personnel.
  • Provide training on smart meter installation, configuration, testing and commissioning.
  • Deliver training on AMI architecture, communications networks and system components.
  • Train personnel on Head-End Systems (HES), Meter Data Management (MDM) and related AMI platforms.
  • Provide practical instruction on fault finding, diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Develop training materials, presentations, manuals, assessments and practical exercises.
  • Assess trainee knowledge and practical competency and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop training programmes suitable for personnel with different levels of technical experience.
  • Conduct competency assessments and maintain appropriate training records.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures and technical guides.
  • Work with technology and equipment suppliers to ensure training content reflects current systems and equipment.
  • Identify skills gaps and recommend additional training or development activities.
  • Provide post-training technical support and mentoring where required.
  • Support the onboarding and development of local technical teams.
  • Ensure training is delivered in accordance with project requirements, technical standards and health and safety procedures.
  • Travel internationally to deliver training and support AMI implementation projects, particularly within the Middle East.

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related electrical/electronic engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' professional experience in electrical metering and 3 years minimum experience in smart metering and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) environments.
  • Proven experience delivering technical training, coaching or mentoring to engineers, technicians, meter installers or other technical personnel.
  • Strong practical experience with smart meter installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrable understanding of AMI architecture and smart metering systems.
  • Experience working with Head-End Systems (HES), Meter Data Management (MDM) or related AMI platforms.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience delivering training for large-scale AMI or smart meter rollout programmes.

Also have worked with electricity utilities, distribution companies or energy sector organisations.

  • Experience training teams in Africa and/or the Middle East.
  • Experience developing technical certification or competency-based training programmes.
  • Knowledge of revenue protection and electricity loss reduction programmes.
  • Experience with smart metering technology from major meter or AMI technology manufacturers.
  • Experience developing "train-the-trainer" programmes.
