  • An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join a well-established business within the food manufacturing industry.

Reporting directly to the Operations Director, you will take full ownership of the site’s Health & Safety function, driving a proactive safety culture while ensuring full compliance with relevant legislation and company standards.

  • This is a standalone role suited to someone who enjoys working closely with operational teams, influencing best practice, and continuously improving Health & Safety performance across a busy manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the site’s Health & Safety function, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and company policies.
  • Advise and support senior management and department managers on Health & Safety matters, risk management and safe systems of work.
  • Develop, implement and maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures and safe operating practices.
  • Carry out risk assessments, COSHH assessments and regular workplace inspections.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Deliver Health & Safety inductions, toolbox talks and ongoing training to employees and contractors.
  • Manage statutory inspections including lifting equipment, forklift trucks, fire equipment, ladders and racking.
  • Maintain emergency procedures, fire safety records and incident reporting systems.
  • Produce Health & Safety KPI reports and lead regular Health & Safety committee meetings.
  • Support internal and external audits, working closely with Operations, HR and Technical teams.
  • Promote continuous improvement and embed a strong Health & Safety culture across the site.

Requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate.
  • Previous experience in a Health & Safety role within food manufacturing, manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.
  • Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, investigations and compliance audits.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Strong IT and reporting capability.
  • NEBOSH Diploma.
  • IOSH Membership.
  • Experience within the food manufacturing sector.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety best practice.
  • Salary & Benefits
  • £35,000 to £45.000 depending on experience.
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm.
  • 28 days holiday including bank holidays.
