The Carlton Hotel is looking for an energetic and dependable Assistant Manager to help the owners with the day-to-day running of our independent 35-bedroom boutique hotel in Ilfracombe.

This varied, guest-facing position covers reception, guest services, food and beverage operations and event planning.

It will suit someone who is hands-on, takes pride in excellent service and enjoys supporting guests and colleagues.

Key responsibilities

  • Welcome guests and support reception duties, including arrivals, departures, enquiries and reservations.
  • Help resolve guest requests promptly and maintain a warm, professional standard of service.
  • Support food and beverage service across the hotel, including preparing service areas and assisting during busy periods.
  • Help maintain operational standards and assist with the planning and delivery of hotel events, functions and group bookings.
  • Work closely with the business owners and wider team to support the smooth day-to-day running of the hotel.

About you

Food and beverage experience is essential. Experience in hospitality, hotels or customer service would be an advantage.

  • Energetic, practical and willing to take a hands-on approach.
  • A good listener who communicates clearly with guests and colleagues.
  • Guest-focused, organised and able to remain calm when priorities change.
