About Excelsior
Excelsior Group Limited is a growing, family-run principal contractor delivering residential schemes across the Midlands and South East, typically ranging from £6m–£25m.
With a strong pipeline of secured work, we are looking for an experienced Construction Manager to join our operational team.
The Role
You will be the key link between our sites and the wider business, working with Site Managers, Commercial, Procurement, Design and the Directors to keep projects on programme and issues resolved.
You will oversee projects end-to-end – from pre-construction, mobilisation and groundworks, through the build programme to commissioning, completion and client handover.
Programming is fundamental to the role. You must be able to create, update and interrogate construction programmes, understand critical path and sequencing, identify slippage early and implement recovery plans.
You need to be as comfortable walking a site and challenging a Site Manager as you are chairing a project meeting and reporting to the Directors.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational oversight of multiple live projects.
- Create, maintain and interrogate construction programmes.
- Drive programme, sequencing, logistics and delivery.
- Support and challenge Site Managers and subcontractors.
- Identify programme risk and implement recovery strategies.
- Coordinate site requirements with Commercial, Procurement and Design.
- Ensure labour, plant, materials and information are available to programme.
- Lead project and progress meetings.
- Provide concise reporting to Directors on progress, risk and required decisions.
- Input into pre-construction, buildability, logistics and value engineering.
- Drive projects through completion, handover and defects.
- Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, quality and compliance.
About You
You are likely to have progressed through Site Management, Senior Site Management or Project Management with a UK main contractor or residential developer.
You will need:
- Strong technical construction knowledge.
- Proven experience delivering residential or comparable projects.
- Excellent construction programming skills.
- Strong Microsoft Project capability.
- A thorough understanding of sequencing, critical path and construction logistics.
- Experience managing and challenging site teams and subcontractors.
- Commercial awareness and a strong understanding of how programme impacts cost.
- Strong Health & Safety and CDM knowledge.
- Confidence dealing with clients, consultants and senior management.
- SMSTS and appropriate CSCS management card.
- Full UK driving licence.
NEC/JCT experience, relevant construction qualifications and CIOB membership would be advantageous.
The Person
We want someone who takes ownership of delivery.
Someone who can walk a project, understand exactly where the pressure points are, interrogate the programme and work with both site and office teams to remove the constraints.
You will be technically strong, organised, commercially aware and solutions-focused, with the confidence to challenge when required.

Location: Predominantly Midlands-based projects with regular attendance across our sites and office.
