Who We Are:

Currie Motors is one of England's most prominent family-owned motor retail groups and a highly successful specialist in the sale of pre-owned cars. We've been established in the UK for more than 50 years and have built our reputation around a straightforward philosophy: “Nice People to Do Business With.” That doesn't just apply to our customers. We want to create a positive working culture where our people feel supported, our managers have the confidence to lead effectively and HR plays an active role in helping the wider business succeed.

The Opportunity:

As our HR Manager, you'll report directly to the HR Director and provide a comprehensive HR service across our multi-site business. You'll lead day-to-day people activity while advising and coaching managers across the entire employee lifecycle. That means being equally comfortable guiding a manager through a sensitive employee relations case, reviewing HR policy against changing legislation, supporting organisational change or thinking about how we can improve engagement and the wider employee experience. This is very much a hands-on operational HR role, but you'll also have the opportunity to think more broadly - developing HR strategies aligned with our business objectives and helping shape how our people practices and culture evolve. You'll be based at our Twickenham office, with regular travel to our Kingston, Isleworth and Great West Road dealerships to build strong relationships and support leadership teams in person.

Where You'll Add Value:

  • Employee Relations & Manager Coaching: Advise and coach managers across all aspects of the employee lifecycle, including employee relations, performance, engagement and employment legislation. Take ownership of ER matters including absence, disciplinary and performance issues. Investigate and help resolve grievances, complaints and employee disputes. Provide practical, commercially aware guidance that enables managers to handle people matters confidently and consistently. Ensure employment law, company policy and HR best practice are applied appropriately across the business.
  • People Strategy & Culture: Lead people-related activity across the business. Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with wider commercial objectives. Help shape a positive, high-performing working culture in line with Currie Motors' values and goals. Support organisational change and transformation projects. Work closely with the HR Director and leadership teams to continually improve the employee experience.
  • Reward, Policy & Development: Oversee reward and recognition activity including long service awards and salary reviews. Manage and support contractual changes. Monitor developments in UK employment legislation and update HR policies and practices accordingly. Identify and support training and learning & development requirements. Lead and contribute to wider HR projects as required.

About You:

You're a confident, proactive HR professional who enjoys being close to the business. You understand that good HR requires more than knowing the legislation. You can coach managers, influence decisions, handle sensitive situations and build trusted relationships with people at every level. You're also comfortable rolling your sleeves up. This isn't a purely strategic HR position - you'll remain actively involved in the operational people matters that affect employees and managers every day.

You’ll likely bring:

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified or equivalent practical experience preferred. Level 7 would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Strong operational HR generalist experience, ideally within a multi-site or similarly fast-moving organisation.
  • Solid practical knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Strong hands-on employee relations experience, including absence, disciplinary, grievance and performance matters.
  • Proven experience coaching and advising line managers.
  • The confidence to influence people and encourage positive behavioural change.
  • Experience supporting organisational change and wider HR initiatives.
  • Strong organisational skills with the resilience to manage pressure and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • High levels of discretion when dealing with confidential or sensitive information.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office packages.
  • A degree, HND, HNC or equivalent qualification in a Human Resources discipline.
  • Full UK driving licence due to travel between our dealership locations.

Why Join Currie Motors?

You’ll be joining an established family business where HR has a direct relationship with the people running and working across the organisation. You’ll have the support of an experienced HR Director and HR Coordinator while having the scope to take genuine ownership, influence managers and help shape the future people experience across the business.

You’ll also enjoy:

  • £55,000 - £58,000 salary depending on experience.
  • Company car.
  • Free parking.
  • 22 days' annual leave, increasing with tenure, plus 8 bank holidays.
  • Workplace Pension Scheme.
  • Life Assurance.
  • Employee Assistance Programme.
  • Loyalty & Long Service Awards.
  • Car Leasing Scheme.
  • Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Discounts on car purchases, repairs and parts.
  • Ongoing training.
  • Opportunity for career progression.
