Since 1996, we have supported thousands of women from across London, through our free counselling; group therapy; and self-development workshops. Over the past 28 years we delivered free mental health care to over 20,700 women.

The Role at a Glance:

Position: People and Operations Manager
Location: London (NW1) Based Minimum 50% of Working Hours / Hybrid Working
Salary: £42,000 – £45,000 FTE Depending on Experience

About us:

Established over 30 years ago, we have been the leading specialist in mental health services to support women rebuilding their lives after domestic abuse. Led by and for women, we aim to ensure that women affected by domestic abuse can live a safe and healthy life, free from further harm. Our approach is trauma-informed and person-centred, empowering survivors on their journey to recover from the trauma. Since we began operations, we have supported over 20,700 women through 70,900 counselling sessions – and that number continues to grow.

We are committed to a positive, inclusive and equitable environment for our staff, service users and volunteers. Alongside our current service provision, we are focused on developing innovative mental health services for young women and girls, launching peer-led support groups and providing therapeutic groups to children and their mothers. We are also committed to developing further awareness-raising workshops and training for professionals, building on our research and policy expertise to improve systems nationally. As demand for our service grows, we are ambitious to double the number of women we support each year.

The Opportunity:

As our People and Operations Manager, you will oversee a People and Operations Officer and be a key member of our Leadership Team, helping to collaboratively shape and guide the charity as we work towards our 2022-2027 strategy. This role is at the heart of our trust, providing essential oversight of the People and Operations function while also offering direct exposure to the CEO, Board Members, and key decision-making processes that shape the organisation’s future.

Your Key Responsibilities Will Oversee:

  1. HR / People
  2. Business planning, analysis and monitoring
  3. Finance
  4. Compliance
  5. Risk management
  6. Premises and information communications technology (ICT)
  7. Governance and board support
  8. Line management and office administration

About you:

Essential:

  1. Relevant academic or part professional qualification in HR
  2. Experience of supervision or managing a small team
  3. Two years experience of working within an HR team and able to demonstrate breadth of knowledge of HR matters
  4. Understanding of Confidentiality, Data Protection and record keeping
  5. Knowledge and experience of financial and legal requirements of small business and/or charities
  6. Understanding and awareness of anti-discriminatory issues and practice
  7. Leadership skills in keeping with our ethos
  8. Demonstrated ability to motivate and support a cohesive team
  9. Ability to provide leadership during periods of uncertainty and change
  10. Excellent organizational skills, including setting SMART goals
  11. Numerate with ability to produce financial reports
  12. Good communication skills
  13. Ability to work on your own initiative – set and meet targets and deadlines and organise your own time
  14. Ability to attend occasional evening meetings when necessary

Desirable:

  1. Experience of managing and developing staff
  2. Experience of budget management, financial systems and controls
  3. Experience of operational performance management
  4. Knowledge of the range of statutory and voluntary agencies and services which women experiencing domestic violence may come into contact with
  5. Strong project management skills
  6. Ability to manage and prepare budgets and financial controls
