Who We Are

Founded in Sheffield in 2004, CHG Electrical has more than two decades of engineering heritage. Built on strong electrical engineering foundations, the business has evolved into a multidisciplinary engineering partner delivering complex projects across water utilities, rail, steel and manufacturing.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to become an important part of CHG's growing design capability, developing the mechanical engineering solutions that sit at the heart of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

You'll produce detailed layouts, pipework designs, equipment specifications and calculations to support the installation of process plant and MEICA equipment across clean and dirty water treatment sites.

Working alongside civil, electrical and wider engineering specialists, you'll ensure mechanical designs don't simply work technically, but are practical to build, integrate effectively with other disciplines and meet the requirements of the project and water company.

You'll also remain involved as projects move onto site, providing technical support during construction, resolving design queries and helping take your designs through to successful handover.

About You

You'll be a Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong understanding of how mechanical and process systems come together within complex infrastructure environments.

Ideally, you'll have developed your experience within water, wastewater, utilities or infrastructure, giving you practical knowledge of the standards, equipment and multidisciplinary coordination involved in MEICA projects.

You'll be technically capable but collaborative too, comfortable owning your designs while working closely with other engineering disciplines, consultants, suppliers and site teams to deliver the right overall solution.

You'll Bring:

• A degree, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

• Around 3-5+ years' mechanical design experience within utilities, infrastructure or water-related projects.

• Experience designing pumps, pipework, valves, tanks and/or process plant.

• Experience developing and interpreting P&IDs, GA layouts, process flow information and equipment specifications.

• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Inventor and pipework/process design tools or equivalent.

• Familiarity with WIMES, Sewerage Sector Guidance and relevant mechanical/process standards.

• A sound understanding of CDM regulations and temporary/permanent works requirements.

• Strong understanding of buildability and multidisciplinary design coordination.

• Good technical writing and communication skills.

• A practical, collaborative approach to engineering problem-solving.

• Full UK driving licence.

Why CHG Electrical?

You'll be joining an established engineering business that's continuing to broaden its capabilities and invest in its multidisciplinary engineering team.

Rather than working within an isolated mechanical design function, you'll collaborate with civil, electrical, ICA and project delivery specialists, giving you exposure to how complete MEICA infrastructure solutions come together from initial design through construction and commissioning.

You'll also have the opportunity to contribute to high-profile AMP and utility infrastructure schemes while continuing to develop your technical expertise through mentoring, training and ongoing CPD.

You'll Also Receive:

• £45,000 - £50,000 salary.

• Performance-related bonus.

• Hybrid working options.

• Flexible working hours.

• 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays.

• Training, mentoring and CPD opportunities.

• Exposure to high-profile AMP and utility infrastructure projects.

• Clear progression pathways within a supportive and growing engineering team.
