RECRUITMENTiQ is working in partnership with a higher education college located on the Isle of Skye to assist in their search for aCommis Chef / Chef de Partie.The role provides the opportunity to work in a unique setting on a beautiful island campus, as-well-as on-campus accommodation for the first six months, available at a cost of £120 per week.
The Commis Chef / Chef de Partie will join the on-campus catering team and help deliver high-quality, nutritious meals for students, staff, visitors and guests.
This is a varied, hands-on role covering day-to-day food preparation, menu delivery, event catering and the smooth running of kitchen operations. Youll work closely with the Head Chef, Sous Chef, Assistant Chef and wider catering team in a supportive and community-focused environment.
The Role
As Commis Chef / Chef de Partie, your responsibilities will include:
Preparing and cooking meals for lunch, dinner and special events, working collaboratively with the Chef and Assistant Chef. Breakfast preparation may also be required.
Ensuring dishes meet agreed standards for quality, presentation and portion size.
Safely preparing food for a range of dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and allergen-specific diets.
Working collaboratively within the kitchen team, sharing responsibilities and supporting colleagues during busy periods.
Providing support to junior or temporary members of staff when required.
Following all food hygiene, HACCP and allergen management procedures.
Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working environment in line with statutory and internal standards.
Assisting with food temperature monitoring, cleaning schedules and stock rotation.
Supporting the ordering, unpacking and correct storage of food deliveries.
Helping maintain accurate stock levels and minimise food waste through careful planning and portion control.
Reporting stock shortages, equipment requirements or other issues promptly.
Assisting with catering for conferences, events, short courses and residential programmes.
Contributing ideas to improve menus, kitchen processes and the overall customer experience.
About You
Youll have a professional cookery qualification, such as SVQ Level 2, or substantial equivalent experience, together with practical experience working as part of a team in a busy kitchen environment.
You will also have:
Knowledge of food hygiene, food safety and allergen requirements.
The ability to work efficiently and collaboratively under pressure.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings and weekends.
It would also be beneficial if you have:
Spoken Gaelic or a willingness to learn.
Knowledge or experience of food costing.
Experience in menu development or stock management.
Hours & Overtime
Our catering team works 35 hours per week, typically across five days out of seven on straight shifts. Additional hours may occasionally be required to provide cover for annual leave or sickness. Hours worked in excess of 35 hours in any given week are paid at time and a half.
