We are looking for a skilled Field Service Engineer to join our clients growing team, supporting the service, maintenance, installation and repair of recycling machinery and waste-processing equipment across the UK. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role ideal for an engineer with strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding abilities who enjoys working independently and travelling nationwide.
About the role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining and installing a wide range of machinery used in the recycling and waste-handling industry. This includes balers, compactors, shredders, separators, and conveyors. You will provide on-site support, diagnose faults, carry out refurbishments and ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Service, maintain, repair, and install recycling and waste-processing machinery including balers, conveyors, compactors, and separators.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults (motors, gearboxes, control panels, and conveyors).
- Undertake machine builds and refurbishments both in the workshop and on customer sites.
- Provide nationwide field support, including planned maintenance, breakdown callouts and new machinery installations.
- Deliver on-site customer training and maintain strong, professional customer relationships.
- Complete accurate service reports, installation records, and job documentation.
- Work flexibly to support changing schedules, including regular travel and occasional overnight stays.
- Ensure all work carried out safely and in line with company and site health & safety standards.
Requirements:
- Previous experience as a Field Service Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or similar hands-on experience engineering role.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
- Experience working with recycling, agricultural, industrial or plant machinery is beneficial but not essential.
- Mechanical or Electrical qualifications (NVQ, Apprenticeship, or similar).
- Able to work independently or as part of a small team.
- Excellent problem solving and customer service skills.
- Comfortable travelling around the UK with overnight stays.
- Full UK driving license essential.
What we offer
- £41,000 - £60,000 per annum.
- Overtime paid at 1.5 x hourly rate (weekdays & Saturday) & 2x hourly rate (Sundays).
