About the Role: Overview: We are seeking a highly motivated Purchasing Engineer to join a leading high-tech manufacturing company. This role is ideal for a technically-minded individual with a background in engineering and a strong track record in sourcing and procuring complex, high-specification components and systems. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between engineering and procurement, ensuring the supply of technically demanding products aligns with quality, budget, and lead-time requirements. Key Responsibilities: Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers for technically complex components, assemblies, and systems. Collaborate with design and engineering teams to understand technical specifications and ensure accurate translation into procurement requirements. Lead the procurement process from request for quotation (RFQ) to purchase order placement and supplier performance monitoring. Work closely with quality, logistics, and production teams to resolve supply issues, manage risk, and drive continuous improvement. Develop cost-saving initiatives through effective sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and value engineering. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant markets, materials, and technologies to inform sourcing decisions. Support new product introduction (NPI) with sourcing strategies that align with design and production timelines. Prepare and present purchasing data and reports to internal stakeholders as required. Required Qualifications & Experience: Degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related discipline). Proven experience in a purchasing, supply chain, or procurement role within a technical or engineering-led environment. Strong understanding of technical drawings, BOMs (Bills of Materials), and manufacturing processes. Experience sourcing custom-machined, precision-engineered, or cleanroom-compatible components is highly desirable. Excellent negotiation, communication, and supplier management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications. Personal Attributes: Detail-oriented with a hands-on, proactive approach to problem-solving. Technically curious and commercially savvy.
