The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.
The main purpose of this role will be to take ownership of one of our client's core product ranges during its lifecycle, including the following aspects: Product innovation, Customer support, Product quality, Production support and Cost optimisation. To nurture and grow your own product range to be the best value in the market, driven by functionality, quality and cost.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Technical Innovation and Competitive Position
- Keep up to date with technical innovation in both UHV design & the latest manufacturing technologies.
- Understand our competitive position and perform reverse engineering and benchmarking of competitor products.
- Product Development
- Maintain project management processes and deliver development projects on budget and time.
- Work to and promote DFM best practices.
- Perform a feasibility study on select NPIs.
- Check detailed drawings to BS 8888.
- Locate new and maintain existing supplier collaboration partners for product developments.
- Create CAD BOMs for new products.
- Ensure that all data is provided to stakeholders in the correct format.
- Carry out FMEA.
- Assemble and test prototypes.
- Quality
- Identify and deliver on opportunities to improve quality through redesign/production engineering.
- Lead 8D investigations/root cause analysis.
- Product Maintenance
- Keep product data maintained to current standards.
- Support Operations with clear and up-to-date CAD BOMs, and work instructions.
- Cost Reduction
- Identify value engineering opportunities in the current range and define and deliver these on projects.
- Support purchasing and manufacturing departments by actively taking part in outsourcing projects to improve profitability.
- Engineering Changes
- Support their engineering change system in a timely and controlled manner, calling upon other team members to assist when appropriate.
- Ensure up-to-date drawings and BOMs are available in manufacturing.
- Root cause engineering problems and seek to eliminate.
- Custom Design
- Provide engineering support for quotations and technical inquiries.
- Provide timely product engineering support for custom orders to agreed deadlines.
- Produce Drawing/Engineering packs on time and to budget.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
- Root cause analysis.
- Product Engineering of components and assemblies.
- Microsoft Office products.
- Project costing & quotation.
- Ability to read & produce technical drawings using the latest 3D CAD packages.
DESIRABLE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years in a similar role.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics.
- Experience with PTC Creo 5 (or above).
- Experience of 'hands-on' mechanical assembly.
- Experience in machining (milling/turning).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required Qualifications: HNC/D in Mechanical and Production Engineering.
- Desirable Qualifications: Mechanical Engineering Degree or similar.
PERSONAL QUALITIES/ATTRIBUTES
- Good communicator across all engineering disciplines and levels of ability.
- Able to manage own time effectively.
- Hands-on and can-do approach.
FLEXIBLE WORKING REQUIREMENTS
To support the Business, flexibility is required. It is expected that this role will require the successful candidate to effectively manage their time between Design, Product Engineering & Product Quality to create a successful balance between Quality, NPI & Product support. The role requires the successful candidate to be prepared to support other Departments by getting 'hands-on' with Projects and actively take part in the build and testing of their own products.
