An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Family Solicitor to join the highly regarded Family team of an established and successful regional law firm based in Sevenoaks.

This is a broad and interesting role, with a particular emphasis on financial remedy work arising from divorce, including mid- to high-net-worth matters. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to advise on pre-nuptial agreements, cohabitation disputes involving jointly owned property, private children matters and divorce proceedings.

The firm offers a supportive and collegiate environment, genuine opportunities for professional development and a strong work-life balance, including hybrid working.

The Role

You will manage your own caseload and provide high-quality advice and representation to clients across a broad range of family matters. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising clients on financial remedy matters, including mid to high-net-worth cases.
  • Advising on pre-nuptial agreements and cohabitation disputes.
  • Handling private children matters, including arrangements for children.
  • Conducting client interviews and providing clear, practical legal advice.
  • Assessing legal issues and devising appropriate case strategies.
  • Advising clients on likely legal costs and ensuring appropriate funding arrangements are in place.
  • Conducting legal research and preparing case papers.
  • Obtaining and assessing evidence from witnesses and experts.
  • Assessing the strengths and weaknesses of both your client’s and the opposing party’s case.
  • Briefing counsel and working effectively with external professionals.
  • Negotiating settlements and representing clients where appropriate.
  • Issuing proceedings in the appropriate court or venue.
  • Preparing court documentation and ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Attending and, where appropriate, representing clients at interim hearings.
  • Maintaining high standards of client care, confidentiality and file management.

Compliance & Financial Management

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain excellent standards of compliance and financial management, including:

  • Ensuring sufficient funds are held on account for solicitors’ costs and counsel’s fees, or that suitable alternative funding is in place.
  • Preparing regular client invoices and monitoring costs throughout matters.
  • Correctly applying Anti-Money Laundering regulations and relevant procedures.
  • Maintaining files in accordance with the firm’s departmental procedures, professional rules and relevant quality standards, including ISO 9001 and the Specialist Quality Mark where applicable.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely time recording.
  • Working in accordance with any relevant third-party funding requirements.

Business Development

The role will also involve contributing to the continued growth and development of the Family department and wider firm. This will include:

  • Building and maintaining professional networks and undertaking approximately 50 hours of marketing/business development activity per year.
  • Supporting the development and progression of the department and firm.
  • Attending relevant internal and external training and professional development courses.
  • Working towards a target of 1,200 chargeable hours per annum.
  • Meeting the financial billing target set by the Head of Department.

About You

We are looking for a Family Solicitor who is keen to develop their career within a respected regional practice.

You will ideally have:

  • Strong experience across family law, particularly financial remedy work.
  • Experience of dealing with mid- to high-net-worth financial matters would be advantageous.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong understanding of professional and regulatory obligations.
  • Excellent communication and client management skills.
  • A practical, commercial and solution-focused approach.
  • The ability to manage a caseload effectively and work to deadlines.
  • A willingness to contribute to business development and the continued growth of the team.
  • Flexibility to work across the firm’s offices and, where required, at client premises.
