Our client is a well-established and growing company within the steel industry, with exciting growth plans for 2026. They are currently looking to recruit motivated and reliable Assembly Technicians to join their manufacturing team. As part of the assembly team, you will play an integral role in the manufacturing process, contributing to the assembly of steel products, operating equipment, carrying out quality checks, and supporting efficient production operations. Experience using power tools and reading 2D and 3D drawings is essential.

Working Hours & Pay Rates

  • From £13.73 per hour
  • Monday to Thursday: 06:00 - 15:00
  • Friday: 06:00 - 12:30
  • 40 hours per week + overtime

Overtime

Overtime is a requirement of the role and is typically available during weekends and occasionally during the week to meet business needs. Overtime after 40 hours paid at 1.5x rate during weekdays and Saturdays. Sunday paid at 2x rate (when Saturday overtime has been completed).

Key Responsibilities

  • Panel Assembly
    • Build panels in line with technical drawings and work instructions
    • Follow all safety and production procedures
    • Inspect assembled panels for faults or defects
    • Report quality issues, incidents, or process concerns to management
  • Use of Counterbalance Crane to load materials on the assembly tables
  • Sawing & Cutting
    • Operate wall saw machinery to cut boards to specification
    • Cut materials including CP board and OSB board
    • Use plunge saws to create tapered and non-standard boards
    • Ensure all cuts meet technical and quality requirements
  • Boarding Area
    • Fix CP boards to external panels
    • Fix OSB boards onto cassette panels where required
    • Tape external panel joints when necessary
    • Ensure all boarding work meets production and safety standards
  • Quality Assurance (QA)
    • Carry out QA inspections and quality checks throughout the production process
    • Inspect assembled Panels to ensure they meet company standards and specifications
    • Identify and report defects, non-conformities, or production concerns
    • Complete quality documentation and inspection records where required
    • Support continuous improvement and maintain high quality standards across production
  • Overhead Gantry Crane Operation
    • Operate overhead gantry crane safely and efficiently for the movement of materials and components
    • Assist with lifting and positioning of large panels and steel components
    • Carry out daily equipment safety checks and report any faults or issues
    • Always follow all lifting procedures and health & safety regulations
    • Lifting completed panels off the assembly tables
    • Stacking completed panels as per the lotting lists provided by Team Leaders
    • Loading completed panels onto trolleys
  • Finished Goods & Loading
    • Prepare completed panels for dispatch
    • Operate a battery-powered tug to move loaded trolleys
    • Assist with final loading onto delivery trailers with the straddle carrier

Skills & Experience Required

  • Ability to read 2D and 3D technical drawings
  • Experience using power tools such as drills, ratchet guns, grinders, and torque wrenches
  • Experience using hand tools including spanners and screwdrivers
  • Previous assembly or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Experience assembling large panels, equipment, machinery, or construction-based products desirable
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work using your own initiative
  • Computer literacy would be advantageous
  • Comfortable with manual handling and heavy lifting

Desirable Skills & Qualifications

  • Overhead gantry crane licence and experience preferred but not essential
  • Quality Assurance experience preferred but not essential
