We are working with one of our well-established Accountancy Practice clients who are looking to recruit an experienced Payroll Clerk to join their busy Payroll Bureau team. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple client payrolls, and delivering an accurate, high-quality service. You'll be responsible for processing end-to-end payrolls for a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring all deadlines are met while providing excellent customer service.
What You'll Be Doing as a Payroll Clerk:
- Processing end-to-end weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls for a portfolio of clients
- Managing multiple client payrolls simultaneously, ensuring all payroll deadlines are met
- Processing starters, leavers, P45s and P60s
- Completing RTI submissions to HMRC accurately and on time
- Administering auto-enrolment pensions, including pension uploads (NEST, People's Pension, Aviva and similar providers)
- Calculating SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP, holiday pay, student loans and statutory deductions
- Processing Attachment of Earnings Orders, Court Orders and CIS deductions where applicable
- Completing payroll reconciliations and year-end payroll procedures
- Resolving payroll queries and liaising directly with clients and HMRC
- Maintaining accurate payroll records while ensuring GDPR compliance and confidentiality
- Using payroll software to process payrolls accurately and efficiently
What We're Looking For as a Payroll Clerk:
- Previous experience within an Accountancy Practice or Payroll Bureau environment
- A minimum of 2-3 years' payroll experience managing multiple client payrolls
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing and current payroll legislation
- Experience with RTI submissions, pensions, statutory payments and payroll reconciliations
- Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build strong relationships with clients
- Experience using payroll software such as BrightPay, Sage 50 Payroll, Xero Payroll, Moneysoft, Iris Payroll, Staffology or QuickBooks Payroll
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and work to strict payroll deadlines
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving
- CIPP qualification (or studying towards), AAT or payroll qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential
