The Senior Bridging Underwriter Role

  • As a Senior Bridging Underwriter, you will play a critical role in assessing and underwriting bridging loans and buy-to-let mortgages, ensuring adherence to lending criteria and risk management guidelines.
  • Conduct thorough analysis and evaluation of loan applications, including financial documents, credit histories, property valuations, and other relevant information.
  • Assess risks associated with each application, considering factors such as borrower creditworthiness, loan-to-value ratios, and property values.
  • Make informed underwriting decisions, including approving, denying, or conditionally approving loan applications, based on established criteria.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, external regulations, and industry standards throughout the underwriting process.
  • Collaborate with brokers, borrowers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information, clarify requirements, and provide updates on the underwriting process.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of underwriting decisions, calculations, and recommendations to ensure a comprehensive loan file.
  • Support Underwriting Managers with complex loan assessments
  • Presentations to Line Manager in respect of property loans for funding
  • Senior Bridging Underwriter Responsibilities and Duties

  • Deputise for Underwriting Managers where required.
  • Assist loan servicing team with loans post funded, where requested.
  • Activity to build, manage & influence a key broker & borrower network.
  • Ongoing point of contact for brokers and borrowers & professional stakeholders
  • Presentations to Line Management & CEO on loan cases & process improvements
  • Mentorship of Jnr Underwriters, Underwriters & Administrators to support team goal.
  • Timely delivery of MI to line management as and when requested.
  • Update the company CRM (HubSpot) where required.
  • Proactive identification of new lending opportunities vs personal target of £15m per annum
  • Attend team meetings to share best practise & to optimise productivity.
  • All activity to always uphold the principles as a company ambassador.
  • Experience Required – Senior Bridging Underwriter

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in underwriting, specifically in bridging loans and buy-to-let mortgages.
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage lending principles, risk assessment, loan products, market trends, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical skills to assess complex financial information and make sound underwriting decisions.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and verifying information, documents, and calculations.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with brokers, borrowers, and other stakeholders, providing clear explanations of underwriting decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify issues in loan applications and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple tasks and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Proficiency in using underwriting software, loan origination systems, and other relevant tools.
