The role is primarily focused on preparing year-end accounts, alongside Self Assessment tax returns and supporting clients with Making Tax Digital (MTD). We're looking for someone with good UK accountancy practice experience who understands how accounts and tax returns come together, can spot potential issues and is comfortable working through routine queries independently. The position is office-based in Cottingham, working approximately 20–25 hours per week. We can consider different working patterns, including school hours. Personal tax and Making Tax Digital * Preparing Self Assessment tax returns for individuals, sole traders, directors and landlords. * Reviewing client information and identifying missing details or potential tax issues. * Preparing supporting tax computations and schedules. * Assisting clients with their Making Tax Digital for Income Tax obligations, including digital record-keeping and quarterly updates. * Supporting the preparation of year-end tax information and final declarations under MTD, where applicable. * Keeping up to date with relevant changes to personal tax and MTD requirements. You'll also have experience preparing Self Assessment tax returns and a good understanding of how personal tax works in practice. We're looking for someone who can spot when something doesn't look right, identify missing information and work through routine issues rather than simply passing them on. You may be: * AAT qualified (Level 4); * part-qualified ACCA or ACA; or * qualified by experience with solid UK practice experience. We're more interested in your practical ability and experience than the letters after your name. You'll also need: * Good experience preparing year-end accounts for UK businesses. * Experience preparing Self Assessment tax returns. * Strong reconciliation skills and attention to detail. * The ability to produce clear, tidy and logical working papers. * Confidence using accounting and bookkeeping software. * An understanding of Making Tax Digital, or a willingness to develop your knowledge as the requirements expand. * A reliable and organised approach to managing your workload. * A practical, common-sense approach to resolving problems. * Good communication skills when dealing with colleagues and clients.
