Base Salary: $385,000–$550,000 per year

Total Compensation: $1,000,000–$1,500,000, including equity

About the Role

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the continued expansion of the engineering organization from approximately 25 people toward a significantly larger, globally distributed team.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Organization & Scaling

  • Lead the engineering organization through a period of rapid growth while maintaining execution quality and operating discipline.

  • Scale the organization from approximately 25 engineers toward 100+ engineers.

  • Design and evolve the organizational structure required to support a globally distributed engineering function.

  • Establish effective management layers and cross-functional coordination mechanisms.

  • Build and develop engineering leaders across the organization.

Engineering Operations

  • Establish engineering planning and operating rhythms.

  • Define prioritization frameworks, hiring standards, onboarding processes, and performance expectations.

  • Build an engineering culture capable of maintaining high execution standards as the organization scales.

  • Ensure effective collaboration across AI engineering and deployment engineering teams.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical leadership and judgment across AI engineering, machine learning, deployment, and production infrastructure.

  • Engage substantively with technical leaders across both AI development and production systems.

  • Help shape the technical organization required to support reliable, scalable AI products.

  • Maintain strong engineering standards across architecture, development, deployment, and production operations.

Executive & External Leadership

  • Partner directly with the founders on organizational strategy and engineering headcount planning.

  • Influence decisions affecting product development and go-to-market strategy.

  • Represent the engineering organization with customers, partners, and the broader technical community.

  • Serve as a credible public-facing technical leader for the company.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience scaling an engineering organization from approximately 25 to 100+ people, with direct accountability for hiring, organization ...

  • Experience leading globally distributed engineering teams in a startup or high-growth environment.

  • Strong technical credibility across both AI engineering and deployment/production infrastructure.

  • Experience operating through a significant organizational scaling phase beyond an early-stage engineering team.

  • Strong experience building and developing engineering leaders.

  • Excellent public-facing communication skills and the ability to represent engineering with customers, partners, and technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to work closely with founders and executive leadership on organizational and technical strategy.

  • Education from a highly regarded university or equivalent demonstrated caliber through professional experience.

  • Based in or willing to relocate to New York, NY or London, UK.

  • Ability to work in person four days per week, with either Tuesday or Friday available as the remote day.

  • Experience at a company of comparable scale during Series D or Series E, ...

  • Experience building engineering organizations spanning AI research, applied machine learning, and production deployment.

  • Experience as a founding or early engineering leader who successfully transitioned an organization from an early-stage team into a larger-scale engineering function.
