A growing multidisciplinary environmental consultancy based in Staffordshire is looking for an experienced Senior Ecologist to take the lead on complex ecological projects, guide junior colleagues, and play a key role in shaping high‑quality environmental outcomes locally and nationally. As the Senior Ecologist, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading ecological projects from inception to completion, ensuring high‑quality outputs.
  • Managing client relationships and maintaining strong communication throughout each project.
  • Conducting fieldwork and interpreting ecological data for complex projects.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior ecologists, contributing to their development and the wider team's success.
  • Ensuring compliance with environmental legislation, planning policy, and best‑practice guidance.
  • Producing and reviewing technical reports, estimates, and project documentation.

The Senior Ecologist will have the following skills and experience:

  • Degree and/or postgraduate qualification in Ecology or a closely related subject.
  • Strong technical knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and ecological best practice.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of core ecological surveys and protected species surveys, including Bats and Biodiversity Net Gain.
  • Membership (or eligibility) of CIEEM or other relevant professional body.
  • Bat Level 2 Licence (essential).
  • EPS Great Crested Newt and other protected species licences (desirable).
  • Proven experience in project management and client liaison.
  • Proficiency in report writing and IT applications (Microsoft Word and Excel).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to work flexible hours for surveys, including early mornings and evenings across the UK.

The company specialises in ecological surveys, arboricultural assessments, landscape management expertise, and horticultural advisory services. This is a hybrid role, working from various locations across the UK as well as from the office in Stone, Staffordshire. Appointment will be subject to right to work checks and satisfactory references.
