Our client is an established and growing business within the sportswear and teamwear sector, supplying clothing and equipment to clubs and sporting organisations across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking for an experienced Sales Manager to lead a small sales team, manage existing customer relationships and help develop new business opportunities within the grassroots sporting market. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys leading from the front, developing relationships and getting involved in the day-to-day running of a busy sales function.

The Role

As Sales Manager, you will be responsible for supporting and developing the sales team while maintaining your own customer relationships and helping to drive new business. You will work closely with customers and internal teams to ensure opportunities are followed through and orders are delivered effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and motivate a small sales team
  • Set targets, monitor performance and support the development of team members
  • Manage and develop a portfolio of existing customer accounts
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with customers and key contacts
  • Respond to incoming enquiries and convert opportunities into sales
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities
  • Attend occasional customer meetings, sporting events and industry-related activities
  • Work closely with design, production and customer service teams to ensure orders are delivered correctly and on time
  • Identify opportunities to increase sales across existing accounts
  • Monitor customer requirements and provide a high level of service throughout the sales process
  • Contribute ideas and initiatives to support the continued growth of the sales function

About You

We are looking for someone who is commercially minded, confident dealing with customers and comfortable leading a small team. You will ideally have:

  • Previous sales experience within sportswear, teamwear, apparel or a related sector
  • Previous experience managing, mentoring or supervising a sales team
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A confident and professional telephone manner
  • The ability to identify opportunities and convert enquiries into sales
  • Excellent organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple customer requirements
  • A genuine interest in sport and the grassroots sporting environment
  • A proactive approach and the ability to work independently
  • A full UK driving licence, as occasional customer and event visits may be required
