What You’ll be doing

Are you passionate about helping children, young people and families achieve positive outcomes? As a Family Support Worker, you’ll provide a comprehensive and supportive service, working with families based on an assessment of their individual needs and helping them overcome challenges and make positive changes.

You will be part of the Alternative Provision Multi-Disciplinary Specialist Team (APMDST), working with professionals from different areas of expertise, building strong relationships across the Children’s Directorate and with colleagues and partners from other services and agencies. This will include working closely with schools and education providers, Children’s Social Care. the Youth Partnership Service and Health Services.

The role offers the opportunity to work collaboratively with a wide range of statutory and independent organisations, ensuring families receive the right support at the right time. You’ll play an important part in bringing professionals together, sharing information and contributing to joined-up support that improves outcomes for children, young people and their families.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who is a confident and compassionate communicator, able to listen, remain patient and non-judgemental, and build positive relationships with families, children, young people and professionals. You’ll be comfortable working with different people and perspectives, finding common ground and working collaboratively towards shared goals.

You’ll need experience of carrying out assessments with families and producing clear plans and reports around children’s needs and safeguarding. You should be organised, able to manage your own workload, use your initiative and make sound decisions with guidance when child protection and family support are key considerations.

Knowledge of children and young people’s development, SEND, SEMH and trauma-informed approaches is important, along with a Level 3 qualification in childcare, social work, social care, counselling, youth work, education or equivalent experience. You’ll also need good IT skills, an understanding of equality and inclusion, and the ability to travel to families’ homes or education settings. Flexibility to work some early starts and later evenings is also required.
