What You’ll be doing
Luton Borough Council is looking for a skilled and compassionate Family Support Worker – IAPT to provide practical and emotional support to children, young people and their families .
The role will involve working directly with families in their homes and community settings, developing parenting skills, confidence and resilience, and supporting families to manage day-to-day challenges .The postholder will develop and deliver tailored intervention plans, including individual and group work, with clear outcomes and regular reviews .
Working closely with schools, Social Care, Police, health services and voluntary sector partners, the role will contribute to complex assessments, safeguarding and coordinated support for children and families . The postholder will maintain accurate records, monitor progress and provide timely reports and professional guidance to colleagues .
A strong focus will be placed on promoting positive family relationships, strengthening parental capacity and ensuring the safety, wellbeing and best interests of children and young people .
What we’re looking for
You will have experience working with children and families in a social care, education or health setting, with experience of working with SEND services desirable .You will have a good understanding of child development, behaviour and the impact this can have on the wider family .
You will be a confident and empathetic communicator, able to listen, build positive relationships and work in partnership with parents, carers, children, young people and professionals .You will be able to undertake complex assessments, develop clear plans and reports, and make informed decisions where safeguarding and family support are priorities .
You will be organised, proactive and able to manage your own workload, while contributing effectively to multi‑agency working and service improvement . Good IT skills and a commitment to equality and anti‑discriminatory practice are also essential.
A minimum Level 3 qualification in childcare, social work, social care, counselling, youth work or education, or equivalent relevant experience, is required . The role involves travelling to homes and education settings and requires flexibility to work some early mornings and later evenings .
