We are seeking a skilled metalworker, who enjoys being part of a creative team, for the role of Metal Fabricator.
About The Role
Purpose of the Role To work as part of the scenic fabrication team, producing metal scenery in steel and aluminium.
The role involves hands on fabrication work on both new builds and existing sets at Rocket Scenery’s Nottingham workshop.
This position suits a skilled metalworker who enjoys a varied workload, precision craftsmanship, and working collaboratively within a friendly and creative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate bespoke, large scale scenery using steel and aluminium to a high standard of finish and accuracy.
- Accurately read and work from technical and construction drawings.
- Use a range of metalworking techniques including cutting, rolling, welding, and assembly.
- Work with bespoke laser cut parts from our in-house laser cutter.
- Meet production deadlines while maintaining Rocket Scenery’s high-quality standards.
- Work collaboratively within the Metalshop team and with other departments, liaising on materials, schedules, and construction techniques.
- Share skills, knowledge, and experience with colleagues, contributing to a positive and

- Handle materials, tools, and equipment safely and responsibly, adhering to Health & Safety and
COSHH regulations.
- Maintain good housekeeping standards in the workshop and storage areas at all times.
- Carry out basic machine care and report maintenance issues promptly.
Person Specification
Essential
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a metal fabrication or similar workshop environment.
- Strong practical skills in steel and aluminium fabrication.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings accurately.
- Excellent attention to detail and quality control.
- Good understanding of workshop Health & Safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, organised, and able to work to deadlines.
- Comfortable with manual handling and working at height.
Desirable
- Experience in large-scale or scenic fabrication.
- Accredited welding certifications (MIG/TIG; coded welding an advantage).
- Understanding of the demands of theatre or live production environments.
- Computer literacy.
- Forklift and/or MEWP certification.
- Clean driving licence.
