Independent Non-Executive Director

Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC)

Location: London – Board meetings held in person

Commitment: Six Board meetings per year, including an annual Board away day

Term: Three years, with the option to extend for a further three years

Remuneration: Unremunerated; reasonable expenses covered

The Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC) is seeking an Independent Non-Executive Director to join its Board and help shape the future direction of the UK’s leading membership organisation for the recruitment industry.

The recruitment sector sits at the heart of the UK economy, influencing how businesses access talent, how people navigate their careers and how the labour market responds to changing skills and workforce needs. The REC supports recruitment and staffing businesses across the UK, championing high standards and helping its members navigate an increasingly complex world of work.

As an Independent NED, you will bring strategic oversight, constructive challenge and an external perspective to the Board, supporting the organisation’s long-term direction, governance and impact.

Importantly, you do not need to come from the recruitment sector. The REC is particularly interested in senior leaders who can bring fresh thinking and experience from other industries and sectors.

We are looking for someone who can bring:

  • Senior leadership or Board-level experience
  • Strategic thinking and strong commercial awareness
  • Experience of operating in complex, changing environments
  • Independent judgement and the confidence to offer constructive challenge
  • An interest in labour market dynamics, workforce trends, skills or the future of work
  • Strong interpersonal skills, credibility and sound judgement

Experience may have been gained within professional services, technology or digital platforms, workforce and skills, education, consumer or B2B services, or public policy and regulatory environments.

Experience of membership organisations, professional bodies, digital transformation, policy or stakeholder engagement would also be advantageous, although is not essential.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to an influential organisation while helping to shape thinking around a sector central to economic growth and the future of work.
