We are recruiting for a Proposals Engineer / Applications Engineer to join a specialist Power Group team within a global leader in industrial combustion, burner technology and environmental systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded engineer with experience in proposals, applications, technical sales or process engineering to work on complex burner and combustion system solutions for the power generation, energy, oil & gas, petrochemical and industrial sectors. The role offers a strong mix of engineering, customer interaction, commercial input and international exposure, supporting high-quality technical proposals from initial enquiry through to project handover.
As Proposals Engineer / Applications Engineer, you will review customer specifications, develop tailored technical solutions, prepare costed proposals and support clients throughout the quotation process. You will work closely with engineering, sales, manufacturing and international teams to ensure proposals are accurate, commercially sound and technically robust.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review customer specifications, datasheets and project documentation
- Assess technical feasibility and define engineering requirements
- Identify design challenges and propose practical combustion system solutions
- Develop bespoke burner and combustion equipment proposals
- Consider fuel types, emissions, process temperatures and pressure conditions
- Select and size valves, regulators, flow meters and instrumentation
- Prepare technical and commercial proposals for client review
- Produce system descriptions, performance specifications and cost breakdowns
- Ensure proposal documentation is clear, accurate and commercially aligned
- Act as a technical point of contact during the quotation stage
- Respond to client queries and adjust specifications where required
- Build strong client relationships through knowledgeable technical support
- Prepare handover documentation for internal project teams
- Support smooth project transition from proposal to live project
- Maintain high standards of accuracy across calculations and documentation
- Contribute to technical brochures, case studies and client presentations
- Support trade shows, client visits and technical demonstrations when required
- Collaborate with UK and international engineering, sales and production teams
- Ensure compliance with ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards
- Support continuous improvement in proposal processes and documentation
- Travel internationally when required for client meetings or technical reviews
What We’re Looking For:
- Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process or related Engineering discipline
- Experience in proposals, applications engineering, technical sales or similar
- Knowledge of combustion systems, burners, fired equipment or process engineering would be advantageous
- Strong ability to interpret technical specifications and customer requirements
- Excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confident communicator with strong written and verbal skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word
- Full UK driving licence and ideally based within 1 hour of Stamford
- Willingness to travel internationally when required
