Are you experienced in permit-to-work systems, isolation procedures, safe systems of work, high-pressure boilers, steam turbines or process plant operations? This is an excellent opportunity to join a modern waste-to-energy power plant in Stoke-on-Trent, taking a lead role in the implementation and organisation of a digital permit-to-work system across a complex operational environment involving high-pressure systems, LV/HV electrical equipment, boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment and water treatment plant.
You will work closely with operations, maintenance and shift teams to develop and standardise isolation procedures, risk assessments, SSOWs and permit processes, helping to embed safe, consistent and compliant working practices across the site.
The Role
As Senior Isolation and Permit Co-ordinator, you will support the transition from a paper-based system to a digital permit-to-work platform, ensuring contractors, operators and maintenance teams are working safely, correctly and in line with site procedures. You will help design, update and produce safe systems of work, isolation procedures and risk assessments, while acting as a key link between operations, maintenance, contractors and site management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the transition to a digital permit-to-work system
- Standardise and write process procedures, isolation procedures, risk assessments and SSOWs
- Manage and monitor permit and isolation activity across plant operations and maintenance
- Support safe operation of boilers, steam turbines, LV/HV equipment, flue gas treatment and water treatment systems
- Review contractor RAMS and ensure compliance with site and HSE requirements
- Liaise between operations teams, maintenance teams and site contractors
- Ensure anyone accepting or working under a permit is competent and authorised
- Support training and help embed safe working practices across the plant
- Maintain strong working relationships across operations, maintenance and management
What We're Looking For
You will ideally have experience in one or more of the following environments: Energy from Waste, power generation, biomass, utilities, process plant, heavy industrial, chemical, petrochemical, manufacturing, oil and gas, water treatment, wastewater, COMAH or high-pressure steam plant.
You should bring:
- Experience with permit-to-work systems and isolation procedures
- Knowledge of high-pressure boilers, steam turbines or process plant operations
- Experience with LV electrical apparatus; HV awareness would be useful
- Understanding of RAMS, risk assessments, SSOWs and contractor control
- Strong health and safety mindset
- Good computer literacy, ideally including digital permit systems and DCS / Microsoft platforms
- Confidence working with operational teams, contractors and site management
- Ability to work at height and manage confined space / restricted entry activities
- APLV and APMPS qualifications would be highly desirable
- IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous
