The role will focus on the service, inspection, repair and maintenance of plant, mechanical handling equipment and associated equipment, ensuring assets remain safe, compliant, reliable and operational.

The Role

As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for servicing, repairing, inspecting and maintaining plant, mechanical handling equipment, powered equipment and associated ancillaries. You will work as part of a skilled and supportive engineering team, carrying out mechanical fault finding, planned maintenance, equipment inspections and repairs in line with company standards, current legislation and customer requirements. This is a hands-on mechanical engineering role suited to someone with experience in plant, MHE, military equipment, agricultural machinery, construction plant, HGVs or similar heavy mechanical equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Service, repair and maintain plant, mechanical handling equipment and associated ancillaries.
  • Carry out inspections in line with LOLER and PUWER requirements.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and complete effective repairs.
  • Support equipment handover, hand-back, delivery, collection and exchange activity.
  • Maintain accurate records using internal fleet and maintenance systems.
  • Manage local stocks of spares, attachments and associated equipment.
  • Liaise with local maintenance teams and provide technical support where required.
  • Identify unsafe equipment and remove it from use where necessary.
  • Order spares within agreed financial limits.
  • Support and mentor users and maintainers where appropriate.
  • Follow all health, safety, environmental and quality procedures.
  • Work away from the main service centre when required.

What We're Looking For

We are keen to hear from candidates with a mechanical engineering background gained in any of the following areas:

  • Plant maintenance
  • Mechanical handling equipment
  • Powered access equipment
  • Military equipment
  • Agricultural machinery
  • Construction plant
  • HGV maintenance
  • Heavy mechanical equipment
  • Workshop or field service engineering

You will need:

  • City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering.
  • Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of PUWER and LOLER regulations.
  • Practical, hands-on approach to maintenance and repair.
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
  • Confidence using computers and maintenance systems.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • HGV experience or an HGV licence would be advantageous, but this is not essential.
