This position sits within the Petrochemical Rental and Rapid Response Division, which provides combustion and flaring solutions on a short- and medium-term basis to clients worldwide.
As a Proposals (Applications) Engineer, you will play a key role in developing customer enquiries into well-structured technical and commercial proposals, managing projects from initial contact through to contract handover.
The role combines engineering design, client interaction, and commercial acumen, and offers opportunities for international travel across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate client enquiries to determine technical requirements, process conditions, and project objectives.
- Perform process design calculations to specify suitable combustion or flaring equipment.
- Review and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and client specifications to ensure alignment with technical needs.
- Work collaboratively with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure proposed solutions are practical, safe, and cost-effective.
- Prepare detailed technical and commercial proposals for rental and rapid response flare projects.
- Accurately estimate costs, materials, and timescales, ensuring proposals are competitive and aligned with business objectives.
- Liaise with vendors, subcontractors, and internal departments to gather supporting technical data and quotations.
- Ensure all proposals and supporting documentation are compliant with company standards and client requirements.
- Develop clear turnover packages to support project delivery teams.
- Understand the scope of work, scheduling requirements, and logistical challenges associated with each project.
- Provide technical support to the operations and field teams during the execution phase.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of proposal templates and pricing tools.
- Attend customer sites within the UK and internationally, often at short notice, to provide technical or commercial clarification.
- Participate in commissioning or troubleshooting support when required.
Candidate Requirements
- Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Background in the process, petrochemical, refinery, or oil and gas industries.
- Experience in combustion engineering or a related process/chemical discipline.
- Strong technical knowledge with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word, with some familiarity with Sage or similar ERP systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a confident presentation style.
- Methodical, well‑organised, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working at heights and able to travel internationally at short notice.
