The Role
As a Plant & HGV Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring critical defence equipment remains operational, compliant and safe. You’ll be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of plant, HGV and associated ancillary equipment, helping maximise equipment reliability and minimise downtime.
Key responsibilities include:
- Service, inspect, maintain and repair plant, HGV and associated equipment
- Diagnose faults and identify root causes of equipment failures
- Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs to company standards
- Ensure compliance with LOLER and PUWER legislation
- Liaise with engineering managers regarding timescales, costs and further work requirements
- Identify additional repair opportunities where damage or defects are identified
- Complete accurate service, maintenance and engineering documentation
- Maintain stocks of spares, tooling and technical documentation
- Support and mentor maintainers and users where appropriate
- Work safely and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental standards
- Support occasional weekend and out-of-hours work where required
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from candidates with experience in:
- Plant fitting
- HGV maintenance
- Construction plant engineering
- Material Handling Equipment (MHE)
- Mechanical engineering
- Military vehicle maintenance
- Heavy vehicle or fleet maintenance
You should ideally have:
- City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong fault finding and diagnostic experience
- Working knowledge of LOLER and PUWER regulations
- Experience working on plant, HGV or MHE equipment
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Ability to obtain MOD Security Clearance (BPSS)
- A valid passport for occasional overseas travel
Ex-military engineers, particularly REME or similar technical military backgrounds, are strongly encouraged to apply.
