We’re recruiting: EC&I / Control Systems Engineer

Up to £60,000 + Up to 15% Bonus + Company Car + 12% Bonus

Are you a genuine Control & Instrumentation specialist with hands‑on experience of Siemens Step7 Classic, TIA Portal and WinCC SCADA?

The package

  • Salary up to £60,000, depending on experience
  • Bonus of up to 15%
  • Company car
  • 7.5% company pension contribution
  • Private healthcare
  • Life assurance

  • Exposure to operational plants, upgrades, commissioning, carbon capture and new renewable-energy projects

We’re recruiting for a growing renewable‑energy business developing and operating biogas plants across the UK, with an expanding portfolio of plant upgrades, new projects and carbon‑capture technology.

This is a specialist controls role—not a general maintenance position with occasional PLC exposure. You’ll combine practical instrumentation expertise with control systems engineering, supporting operational plants, commissioning projects and automation improvements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnosing complex instrumentation, PLC, SCADA and control‑system faults
  • Calibrating pressure, temperature, flow, level and gas‑analysis instrumentation
  • Completing instrument loop checks, loop tuning and process‑control optimisation
  • Modifying and maintaining Siemens Step7 Classic and TIA Portal PLC systems
  • Supporting and developing Siemens WinCC SCADA systems
  • Working with virtualised control environments, including VMware or Hyper‑V
  • Supporting DCS and Safety Instrumented Systems, including testing and proof testing
  • Commissioning instrumentation and automation systems for new plants and upgrades
  • Troubleshooting industrial networks, including Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, Ethernet and OPC
  • Supporting functional safety, HAZOP, LOPA, DSEAR and engineering change processes
  • Improving plant reliability, performance and operational visibility

What we’re looking for

You’ll need strong EC&I experience gained within a highly automated process or heavy‑industrial environment such as power generation, Energy from Waste, chemical processing, petrochemical, oil and gas, renewable energy or utilities.

Essential experience includes:

  • HNC, HND, advanced apprenticeship or equivalent in Electrical, Control, Instrumentation or Automation Engineering
  • Strong hands‑on instrumentation, calibration, loop checking and fault‑finding capability
  • Practical experience modifying and diagnosing PLC‑based control systems
  • Siemens Step7 Classic and TIA Portal
  • Siemens WinCC SCADA
  • DCS and/or Safety Instrumented Systems
  • Instrumentation and control‑system commissioning
  • Industrial communications and OT environments
  • Virtual machines within industrial control systems
  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, control schematics and engineering documentation

Experience of CompEx, ATEX, DSEAR, hazardous areas, Functional Safety, SIL, PCS7, IEC 62443, Beckhoff, Wago, Codesys or PI/OSIsoft would be highly advantageous.

This is a rare opportunity to become a key controls specialist within a growing renewable‑energy business. You’ll have the autonomy to solve complex engineering problems and directly influence plant safety, reliability and performance.
