Are you a mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer or Shift Engineer looking for a hands-on manufacturing maintenance role with strong long-term prospects? We are recruiting for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to provide effective engineering support to a busy production environment. This is a key role focused on improving equipment reliability, reducing downtime, supporting production performance and ensuring machinery operates safely, efficiently and to specification.
This opportunity would suit an engineer with experience in manufacturing, food production, FMCG, poultry, packaging, automated machinery, processing equipment or similar production environments.
The RoleAs Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will support the production team by:
- Responding quickly and safely to plant stoppages, breakdowns and equipment issues.
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, fault finding and continuous improvement activity across a range of production machinery.
- Working with mechanical drive systems, hydraulics, pneumatics and automated equipment, while ensuring all engineering activity is accurately recorded through the PPM system.
- Improving equipment availability, supporting OEE targets, reducing downtime and helping the factory achieve production and KPI targets.
You will also:
- Complete accurate engineering documentation, maintenance records and PPM paperwork using SAP.
- Work closely with Engineering leadership, production teams and external engineers to support improvements.
- Support training and assessment of staff on machine operation where required.
- Contribute to energy reduction, environmental initiatives and continuous improvement activity.
We are keen to hear from candidates with:
- Experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer, Shift Engineer, Mechanical Fitter or Manufacturing Engineer.
- NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent recognised UK qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, processing or FMCG environment.
- Strong mechanical fault-finding, maintenance and repair skills.
- Experience working with mechanical systems, drive systems, hydraulics and pneumatics.
- A proactive, hands-on approach to engineering support.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety procedures in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to complete accurate maintenance documentation and PPM records.
- Food processing, poultry, FMCG or automated machinery experience.
Additional desirable skills include:
- Welding experience, ideally TIG.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement techniques.
- SAP or computerised maintenance management system experience.
- Computer literacy.
- 17th or 18th Edition electrical qualification.
