Are you an experienced Plant Fitter, HGV Technician, MHE Engineer, Forklift Engineer, Powered Access Engineer, Agricultural Engineer, REME Technician or Military Vehicle Technician looking for a secure role with excellent training and long-term career prospects? This is a fantastic opportunity to join a major defence equipment contract, maintaining and repairing a wide range of plant, materials handling and specialist equipment across MOD sites.

This role could be particularly well suited to candidates based around Catterick / Ripon, Salisbury / Larkhill, Stafford, Chatham / Medway, Barnstaple / Chivenor, Oxford / Abingdon or Ipswich / Woodbridge, especially those with a background in plant, HGV, MHE, military vehicles or heavy equipment maintenance.

You will use your mechanical, hydraulic and electrical maintenance skills in a structured, safety-led environment, supporting equipment that is essential to operational activity. As part of this role, you will be required to become an active member of the Army Reserve as a Sponsored Reserve. Previous military experience is welcome but not essential, as full reservist training will be provided where required.

The role

As a Plant & HGV Maintenance Technician, you will service, maintain, inspect and repair materials handling, plant and specialist equipment in support of MOD operations. Your work will include planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, fault finding and pre-delivery inspections, ensuring equipment remains safe, reliable and ready for use.

Responsibilities include:

  • Servicing and maintaining plant and materials handling equipment
  • Fault finding, breakdown repairs and planned preventative maintenance
  • Completing pre-delivery inspections
  • Working safely and following MOD site rules
  • Completing job activity electronically
  • Ordering parts in a timely manner
  • Delivering high standards of customer service
  • Building strong working relationships with site teams
  • Following safety guidelines, site procedures and customer requirements

About you

This role would suit someone with hands-on maintenance experience across plant, HGVs, MHE, forklifts, powered access, agricultural machinery, military vehicles or similar equipment. You will ideally have:

  • A technical qualification or relevant maintenance experience
  • Experience working on plant, HGV, MHE, powered access or related equipment
  • A good understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical principles
  • Fault-finding and breakdown repair experience
  • The ability to work independently and under pressure
  • Good workload management and prioritisation skills
  • A customer-focused approach
  • A willingness to become a Sponsored Reservist
  • Previous military experience would be beneficial, but it is not essential. Full Army Reservist training will be provided for those with no military background or those who have been out of the military for more than six years.
