The role would suit someone with a background in environmental testing, water, wastewater, chemistry, biology, microbiology, agriculture, food testing, process laboratories or analytical laboratory work. Previous experience in anaerobic digestion, biogas, water or wastewater would be a strong advantage, but full consideration will be given to laboratory professionals with strong practical lab skills and excellent attention to detail.

The Role

As Laboratory Technician, you will support the day-to-day running of the laboratory, carrying out routine analysis, preparing and processing samples, recording results and helping ensure laboratory data is accurate, reliable and available to the wider technical and operations teams.

You will work closely with the Laboratory Manager and wider bioprocess team, supporting sample receipt, logging, testing, reporting, equipment checks, stock control and general laboratory organisation. This is a hands-on laboratory role where accuracy, safety, consistency and attention to detail are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, log, prepare and store samples from operational sites.
  • Carry out routine laboratory tests and analyses accurately and safely.
  • Record laboratory results clearly using spreadsheets, databases and internal systems.
  • Support the production of routine analysis reports for the wider technical team.
  • Follow SOPs, methods, COSHH assessments and laboratory health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, sample logs and analysis data.
  • Carry out basic equipment checks, cleaning, calibration and maintenance tasks.
  • Support stock control for laboratory consumables, chemicals and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organised and efficient laboratory environment.
  • Flag abnormal results, equipment issues, stock concerns or quality issues to the Laboratory Manager.
  • Support improvements to laboratory processes, methods and data accuracy.
  • Assist with sample coordination, dispatch, receipt and occasional site-related activity where required.

About You

You may already be working as a Laboratory Technician, Lab Technician, Laboratory Analyst, Environmental Laboratory Technician, Science Technician, Analytical Technician, Water Laboratory Technician, Wastewater Laboratory Technician or Chemistry / Biology Laboratory Assistant.

You will ideally have:

  • A science-related qualification in biology, chemistry, environmental science, microbiology, agriculture or a related discipline.
  • Previous practical laboratory experience, ideally in environmental testing, water, wastewater, food, agriculture, analytical testing, chemistry, biology, AD or biogas.
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence recording accurate data.
  • Good IT skills, including Excel or laboratory data systems.
  • A methodical, organised and safety-conscious approach to laboratory work.
  • The ability to follow procedures, methods and health and safety requirements carefully.
  • Good communication skills and a reliable, team-focused approach.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle would be useful, particularly for occasional site-related activity.

Why Apply?

  • Join a growing business in the renewable energy and biogas sector.
  • Develop hands-on laboratory experience in a practical, operational environment.
  • Work closely with experienced technical, bioprocess and laboratory professionals.
  • Contribute to accurate testing and reporting that supports real operational decisions.
