The Field Service Engineer role
As a Field Service Engineer, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, servicing and inspection of plant, equipment, mechanical handling equipment and associated ancillaries. You'll work both at the service centre and on site, ensuring equipment is safe, compliant and available for use. You'll also support MOD maintenance teams, complete inspection programmes and keep accurate maintenance records.
Key responsibilities
- Repair, maintain and service plant, equipment and mechanical handling equipment
- Carry out inspections in line with LOLER and PUWER requirements
- Complete planned maintenance, servicing and unscheduled repairs
- Diagnose faults and ensure equipment is safe and operational
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and update fleet information systems
- Support the delivery, collection, exchange and handover of equipment
- Maintain local stocks of spares, attachments and ancillaries
- Provide technical support to MOD maintenance staff where appropriate
- Follow safe systems of work and company health and safety procedures
- Manage your own time effectively when working remotely
- Remove unsafe equipment from use when required
- Support weekend work, out-of-hours duties and callouts when required
What we're looking for
- City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent in mechanical engineering
- Experience maintaining plant, MHE, forklifts, mechanical handling equipment or similar machinery
- Understanding of health and safety requirements
- Knowledge of PUWER and LOLER
- Computer literate with the ability to update maintenance systems
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable experience
- HGV licence
- Forklift, MHE, plant or agricultural machinery background
- Defence, MOD, military vehicle or specialist equipment experience
- Mobile engineer or field service experience
