This is an excellent opportunity to join a major UK food manufacturing business at its Linton site near Cambridge, working as part of a supportive engineering team to keep production running safely, efficiently and reliably.

The role would suit a hands-on maintenance engineer with a strong mechanical bias and good electrical understanding, ideally gained within food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging, production, process manufacturing or another fast-moving industrial environment.

The Role

As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer Mechanical Bias, you will carry out planned preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and support continuous improvement across production and site equipment. You will work across a range of production machinery and site services, helping to reduce downtime, improve reliability and support smooth day-to-day operations across the site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance across production equipment and site services
  • Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns and equipment faults
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues
  • Work on production machinery, boilers, water systems, cooling systems and fabrication equipment
  • Support improvements to reliability, efficiency, safety and cost control
  • Use CMMS / maintenance software to record maintenance activity accurately
  • Work closely with production and engineering colleagues to minimise downtime
  • Support continuous improvement projects across the site
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, hygiene and compliance

What Were Looking For

  • Experience as a Maintenance Engineer, Multi-Skilled Engineer, Shift Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Technician or Maintenance Technician
  • Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills
  • Good electrical understanding
  • Experience within food manufacturing, FMCG, production, packaging, process manufacturing or a similar industrial environment
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, drives, pumps, conveyors and production machinery
  • PLC fault-finding awareness would be advantageous
  • Recognised engineering qualification such as NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC, HNC or equivalent
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to maintenance and problem solving

Location

The role is based in Linton, CB21, near Cambridge, and is commutable from Cambridge, Haverhill, Saffron Walden, Newmarket, Royston, Ely, Bury St Edmunds, Sawston, Duxford, Great Shelford, Fulbourn and surrounding Cambridgeshire / Suffolk areas.
