4 On, 4 Off Shift Pattern | Days & Nights | Excellent Earning Potential

Are you an experienced Plant Operator, Control Room Operator or Shift Operator ready to take the next step into leadership?

Would you like to work with high-pressure boilers, steam turbines and complex power generation equipment, with plenty of opportunities to boost your earnings through overtime?

RecruitME is recruiting a Deputy Shift Team Leader for an established Energy from Waste facility in Wolverhampton.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced operations professional looking to take on more responsibility, develop their leadership skills and build a long-term career in power generation.

You'll support the Shift Team Leader in ensuring the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the plant, taking responsibility for site operations and supervising the shift team in their absence.

Experience or an understanding of operating high-pressure boilers and steam turbine plants is particularly desirable. However, we're also interested in candidates with transferable skills from power generation, biomass, CHP, utilities and other heavy process environments.

The Role

As Deputy Shift Team Leader, you'll play an important role in keeping the facility running safely and efficiently while supporting the day-to-day management of the operations team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and controlling boilers, steam turbines and associated power generation equipment

  • Operating and monitoring Distributed Control Systems (DCS), checking temperatures, pressures, flow rates and alarms

  • Supporting the supervision, coordination and allocation of work to plant operations staff

  • Taking responsibility for plant operations and shift supervision in the Team Leader's absence

  • Identifying operational problems and coordinating responses to faults, breakdowns and blockages

  • Monitoring plant performance, environmental emissions and operational efficiency

  • Carrying out control room duties, plant inspections and operational checks

  • Maintaining accurate shift logs, performance records and handover reports

  • Coordinating waste handling operations and supporting the use of plant machinery

  • Supporting maintenance teams and reporting equipment defects

  • Implementing Permit to Work procedures and safe systems of work

  • Ensuring high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance

This is a hands-on operational position offering the opportunity to combine your technical knowledge with greater supervisory responsibility.

What We're Looking For

We're particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in Energy from Waste, power generation, biomass, CHP, industrial utilities, chemical processing or heavy industry.

Ideally, you'll have:

  • Experience as a Plant Operator, Shift Operator, Control Room Operator, Senior Operator or Deputy Team Leader

  • Experience or a good understanding of high-pressure boilers and steam turbine operations – highly desirable

  • Experience operating or monitoring industrial plant using DCS or similar control systems

  • Previous experience supervising, coordinating or supporting operational teams

  • Strong technical understanding of industrial plant and fault diagnosis

  • Knowledge of Permit to Work systems, safe operating procedures and health and safety requirements

  • Good communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Willingness to work rotating 12-hour day and night shifts

Forklift truck qualifications, front-loading shovel experience and a current first aid qualification would also be advantageous.

Don't come directly from Energy from Waste?

That doesn't necessarily matter.

If you've worked with industrial boilers, steam systems, turbines or process control equipment in another sector, your experience could be highly relevant. xiskglj

We're keen to hear from technically capable operators who are ready to step into a position with more responsibility.
