This site-based role involves working on churches, cathedrals and listed properties and structures in Essex and surrounding counties, including some areas of London.
The role requires cutting and shaping stonework with a range of hand and power tools, following templates and moulds to dress stone with textured or polished finishes in accordance with design plans.
There may also be carving figures, lettering or pattern work.
Department: Church Works Department – works on restoration and repair of historical buildings, listed properties, castle ruins, cathedrals and monuments for commercial and residential clients.
The candidate should have proven experience in stone masonry. The successful candidate should know or be able to:
Responsibilities
- Efficiently and effectively cut out and lay, replace and indent natural stone dressings.
- Have a good knowledge and experience working with lime mortars, repointing, rebuilding masonry walls.
- Follow and adhere to Health and Safety policies at all times.
- Work carefully and methodically.
- Read drawings and plans.
- Be accurate with dimensions.
- Maintain an eye for detail to ensure quality control and high standards.
- Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team.
Qualifications
- Proven track record/experience in stone masonry.
- Knowledge and experience with lime mortars, repointing, and rebuilding masonry walls.
- Ability to read drawings and plans.
- Ability to cut and shape stone using hand and power tools and to dress stone to design specifications.
