Working as part of a world-class research team, you’ll support advanced data collection systems used in cutting-edge audio and VR/AR experiments. This is a hands-on, lab-based role focused on setting up, maintaining, and improving complex systems involving prototype devices, audio equipment, and motion capture technologies. You’ll play a key role in ensuring experiments run smoothly while continuously improving tools and processes to enhance efficiency and data quality.

  • Cambridge – Bourn Quarter Development (near Cambourne)
  • 11-month contract
  • Salary from £71,000
  • Fully onsite (5 days per week)

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, configure, and test prototype devices, audio equipment, and motion capture systems
  • Manage and maintain device networks, including switches and related infrastructure
  • Support and run multimodal data collection in controlled lab environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across hardware, software, and network systems
  • Improve and optimise data collection systems for efficiency and reliability
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers on experiment setup and execution

Skills & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar
  • 2+ years’ experience in systems integration (hardware/software environments)
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and device connectivity
  • Hands-on experience working with audio equipment or digital audio data
  • Experience with Python/scripting, Linux, and system troubleshooting
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience with motion capture or sensor-based systems
  • Experience configuring and managing network devices and switches
  • Exposure to large-scale data collection environments
  • Experience with prototype hardware or Android/ADB tools
  • Knowledge of automation and deployment processes
