A well-established accountancy practice in Stevenage is seeking an experienced and confident Accountant to join their growing team. This is a hands-on role supporting a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors, delivering high-quality accounting, tax, and advisory services. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a busy practice environment and enjoy building strong client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of SME clients, acting as their main point of contact
- Prepare year-end accounts for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
- Complete corporation tax returns, personal tax returns, and VAT submissions
- Handle bookkeeping and management accounts as required
- Support clients with queries around accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
- Assist with payroll processing when needed
- Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and HMRC regulations
- Contribute to process improvements and support the wider practice team
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice (essential)
- ACCA/ACA qualified or part-qualified, or qualified by experience
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and tax requirements
- Confident preparing accounts from incomplete records
- Proficient with cloud accounting software (Xero preferred)
