Capgemini are recruiting highly skilled Senior Engineers to join their dynamic team, delivering solutions for a major public sector client. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll focus on delivering critical digital services from cradle to grave working on a variety of projects featuring high-performance cloud platforms using Java based languages and technologies, and on-premises traditional infrastructure.

Hybrid working

Your working location will vary depending on your role, personal needs, and business requirements. This will typically include a mix of company offices, client sites, and remote work from home. If your location is Telford or Worthing (please note the Worthing office will relocate to Brighton & Hove in the second half of 2026) you will be expected to work from the office between 40% and 70% of the time. For all other locations you need to be prepared to come into the Telford or Worthing office once to twice a month (Lead engineers more frequently). As we align closely with customer requirements—which may change over time—you will need to remain flexible. Please note that fully remote working (100% from home) is not permitted.

Your role

We’re looking for people who are learning focused, challenge the status quo and are constantly looking to shape their working environment to make it an exciting, fun and interesting place to work. As a Software Engineer your primary focus will be to deliver user stories whilst working as a part of a multi-disciplined team. You’ll be working closely with analysts and designers to build, deploy and support your services using well established software development techniques such as TDD, BDD and pair programming. Getting involved with all stages of service delivery including testing, configuring, deploying, supporting, and monitoring using industry standard tooling, to truly work in a DevSecOps capacity.

Whilst working in a collaborative environment you are going to meet a variety of different people who, like you, have a wealth of knowledge and experience. As a part of one or more communities, you will have the opportunity to influence how we grow as a delivery centre and how we do things by sharing ideas and working with others to make things better. Senior engineers are expected to lead by example, fostering a culture of excellence. You will actively mentor junior engineers and support their wellbeing, professional growth, and development, including through effective performance management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver user stories as part of a multi-disciplined team.
  • Build, deploy, and support services using established software development techniques such as TDD, BDD, and pair programming.
  • Get involved with all stages of service delivery including testing, configuring, deploying, supporting, and monitoring using industry standard tooling, to truly work in a DevSecOps capacity.
  • Foster a culture of excellence through effective performance management; actively mentor junior engineers and support their wellbeing, professional growth, and development.

Required Competencies

  • Strong technical competence in Java
  • Strong technical competence in Spring Boot
  • Strong technical competence in Open-source integration frameworks
  • Strong technical competence in TDD, Unit testing and automated integration testing
  • Strong technical competence in Experience of building RESTful APIs in Spring boot
  • Strong technical competence in Experience of building loosely coupled synchronous and asynchronous microservices
  • Good working knowledge of Spring JPA, AOP, Transactions, SQL and NoSQL databases, containers and container management platforms such as Docker and Kubernetes is desirable.
  • Experience of Cloud based infrastructure is desirable, along with an understanding of application security principles, continuous integration and continuous delivery.
  • As a well-rounded Agile Software Engineer, we encourage adaptability plus general skills in problem solving, business analysis, quality assurance, application design and architecture to compliment your Java development specialism.
