We’re seeking several proactive Production Supervisors to lead operations within a fast‑paced machine shop environment operating across a three‑shift pattern (6am – 2pm, 2pm – 10pm & 10pm – 6am). As a Production Supervisor, you’ll manage productivity, maintain high quality standards and proactively take ownership of operational challenges. You’ll communicate effectively across shifts, maintain operational continuity and work collaboratively with other supervisors to ensure consistent standards and accountability across the department. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills and gain broader experience within production operations.

High Volume Production is a throughput‑driven machining environment focused on the efficient delivery of high‑volume, repeatable components across multiple product lines. The department plays a critical role in meeting customer demand at scale, leveraging standardised processes, advanced CNC machining, and continuous improvement methodologies to ensure consistent quality, optimised cycle times, and reliable on‑time delivery.

You’ll be joining a supportive leadership environment where you’ll benefit from ongoing training and professional development, with clear progression opportunities into operational management. You’ll also have the opportunity to influence and improve a growing production operation, making a visible impact on performance and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and coordinating day‑to‑day machine shop production activities to ensure output, delivery and quality targets are achieved.
  • Driving productivity and performance across teams, machines and processes, using KPIs (e.g. PVA, efficiency, credits to stock and output) to monitor and improve delivery.
  • Maintaining focus on workflow, urgency and customer delivery, responding quickly to stoppages and making decisions to maximise output.
  • Identifying production bottlenecks and implementing practical solutions to improve operational performance.
  • Ensuring effective communication and alignment across shifts, including clear handovers and collaboration with supervisors to maintain consistency and standards.
  • Promoting accountability by holding teams and peers to agreed processes, behaviours and performance expectations.
  • Maintaining quality standards, ensuring issues are addressed promptly and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Leading people performance through coaching, development and structured tools (e.g. 9 Box), addressing underperformance and developing high performers.
  • Building a culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement, supporting succession planning and talent development.
  • Working cross‑functionally with planning, quality and leadership teams to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Maintaining high standards of health, safety and housekeeping across the department.

Key requirements:

  • Previous demonstrable supervisory or leadership experience within a machine shop, engineering or manufacturing environment.
  • Operationally aware with the ability to manage productivity, quality and performance metrics.
  • Effective communicator who can drive consistency across shifts and hold others accountable constructively.
  • Able to assess problems, make sound decisions and implement effective solutions independently.
  • Demonstrates people management capability, including handling performance conversations, developing talent and addressing capability gaps.
  • Resilient and composed under pressure, with a sense of urgency and sound judgement.
  • Ambitious with clear potential to progress into a management role.

Desirable requirements:

  • CNC machining or precision engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems to support production planning and control.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement and structured performance or talent management approaches.

Person specification:

As a Production Supervisor, you’ll be someone who naturally takes ownership, drives standards, develops people, communicates effectively across teams and shifts. You’ll also be someone who looks for solutions rather than waiting to be instructed.
