The Role

Reporting to the Deputy Head (Academic), the Head of Learning Support plays a pivotal role in shaping and delivering outstanding, evidence-based provision across the school. You will lead specialist Teachers, Therapists, Teaching Assistants and intervention teams, ensuring a cohesive, transdisciplinary approach that enables every pupil to thrive. You will also oversee statutory EHCP processes, examination access arrangements, admissions evaluations, and annual reviews, while contributing strategically to teaching and learning, staff development, and the wider life of the school. In addition, the post-holder will help develop and deliver Frewen College’s outreach and advisory services, strengthening the school’s role within the wider educational community.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Strategic leadership of learning support, therapy and SEND review provision.
  • Oversight of EHCP processes, annual reviews and access arrangements.
  • Leading admissions assessment and evaluation processes.
  • Supporting whole-school teaching and learning through CPD and coaching.
  • Line management of specialist Teachers, Therapists, TAs, and support staff.
  • Budget management and development of effective departmental systems.
  • Development and delivery of traded outreach and training services.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status and a good honours degree.
  • A postgraduate SEND qualification (ideally Level 7 Dyslexia / SpLD).
  • Significant experience supporting learners with dyslexia and co-occurring SpLDs.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills.
  • In-depth understanding of SEND legislation, EHCPs and JCQ regulations.
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A compassionate, inclusive and aspirational leadership style.
  • Experience of training delivery, advisory work or outreach services would be advantageous.
