The Department of Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering is seeking a senior academic in Autonomous Systems to join the Loughborough University Centre for Autonomous Systems (LUCAS). The role involves developing a world‑class research programme that is internationally recognised, securing external research funding, delivering high‑quality teaching in robotics and autonomous systems, and supporting the continued growth of research and education in this strategically important area.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead an internationally recognised research programme in autonomous systems.
  • Secure external funding through competitive grant applications.
  • Deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in robotics, control engineering and autonomous systems.
  • Supervise PhD and MSc students and contribute to the development of the graduate programme.
  • Collaborate with industry and academic partners to translate research into practical solutions.
  • Support the ongoing development of research and education initiatives within LUCAS and the wider department.

Qualifications

  • Senior academic (Senior Lecturer or Lecturer) with an excellent track record in robotics and autonomous systems.
  • Strong research record with experience in mobile, field and/or aerial robotics.
  • Expertise in areas complementary to LUCAS strengths such as learning‑based control, spatial AI, multimodal sensor fusion, embedded intelligence and foundation models for autonomous systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure external research funding and deliver high‑quality teaching.
