The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is distinctive in representing academic excellence across a diverse range of disciplines, from longer established disciplines such as Philosophy, Classics, and English, to more recently established fields including Digital Humanities and Film. Its more than 400 Postdoctoral Research students (PGR) are an integral part of the Faculty’s research environment, contributing to its vitality and innovative outlook.
About the role:
The Executive Officer will provide essential support to the Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities to enable the effective delivery of their duties. The role will be based in the Faculty Business Operations function, managed by the Head of Business Operations, and will work across departments in the Faculty, also providing support to the Director of Operations and contributing to the effective running of the Faculty Office.
The Executive Officer will undertake a range of duties including:
- Coordination of cross‑departmental and Faculty processes
- Inbox and complex diary management
- Provision of secretariat support to the Dean’s Senior Team meetings
- Proactively identifying ways to improve service delivery
- Taking on responsibility for discrete areas of project work as required
The role will act as the first point of contact for the Office of the Executive Dean and will be required to regularly liaise with senior Faculty and departmental colleagues, academics, professional services staff across the Faculty and wider university, and external partners. This role is currently undertaken on a hybrid basis, with the role-holder spending a minimum of two days of their working week on campus and the rest of the week working remotely. This is a full‑time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed‑term contract to 31 October 2027. Interviews are expected to take place the week beginning 6th July 2026.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
- Excellent IT skills, including experience of using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint (or equivalent)
- Experience of providing professional personal assistant support to members of a senior leadership team including inbox and complex diary management
- The ability to draft documents and correspondence and demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experience of managing a range of enquiries and the ability to liaise with a wide range of stakeholders in an assured manner, demonstrating professionalism, discretion, confidentiality and integrity
- Experience of committee administration including accurately recording actions and decisions
- Excellent time management, prioritisation and organisational skills
- The ability to work methodically and with a good eye for detail but also be flexible in approach to work and changing priorities
Desirable criteria:
- Experience of managing small projects through to completion that have resulted in delivering solutions to identified problems
- Experience of working across boundaries in a large and complex organisation
- Experience of undertaking desk‑based research and analysis
