Renishaw’s Machine Tool Products leads the market in delivering innovative, high accuracy measurement solutions to CNC machining processes around the world. Our patented touch trigger probe technology was first employed to measure intricate components for Concorde engines; today our products are the benchmark in high precision engineering for manufacturing hundreds of everyday items like mobile phones and laptops through to car and aircraft parts.
A position has become available for a Lead/Senior Electronic Design Engineer to join a talented multi‑disciplined team in the Machine Tool Products Division (MPD). The team is currently responsible for the electronics design of new machine tool products and has skills in Low Power (Battery) design, RF communications, Optical communications, Digital Design and Analogue Design. The new position will require close liaison with team members from other disciplines (marketing, project management, mechanical & software design, and test & production engineering) across all project phases from concept to product delivery. There will also be a need to interact with and mentor other engineers, graduates, and apprentices within the group and to participate in design reviews within the wider company.
An in‑depth knowledge of analogue electronics is highly desirable and a background of successfully designed products and knowledge of current electronic devices and techniques is essential. There will be opportunities to be involved in research and development projects which will put the successful candidate at the forefront of new product design. Quality is paramount and the company investment reflects this.
Responsibilities- Develop new products, working with project managers and product managers to define agreed product specifications and deliver designs to meet those specifications.
- Work with the team to optimise the interaction between electronics, mechanical and software components in all designs.
- Take ownership of the delivery of electronics designs that meet targets for product performance, quality, cost and timescale and which are suitable for transfer to production, considering design for assembly and test.
- Understand and comply with the company’s new product introduction process, working with cross‑functional teams to optimise the release of new designs to production.
- Work on multiple projects simultaneously and allocate time appropriately, in collaboration with the project manager, to meet deadlines for delivery.
- Keep abreast of current technology and develop innovative processes and design solutions which can be patented by the company.
- Degree/HND qualified with relevant experience in electronics engineering.
- Demonstrable expertise in electronics design.
- Low power circuit design techniques.
- Use of modelling tools such as LT SPICE.
- Expertise in and experience with ECAD system tools.
- Practical experience of designing circuits with microprocessors, microcontrollers and FPGAs.
- Expertise in Analogue Electronics design.
- Designing for electromagnetic compatibility.
- Working knowledge of Industrial Ethernet standards.
- Practical experience of working on 2.4GHz RF circuits.
- Use of Altium and/or Zuken CR tools.
- Knowledge of an embedded software language.
