Are you hands‑on, safety‑focused and looking for a practical role where no two days are the same? Tarmac is recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative to join the team at Ravelrig Quarry in Midlothian, easily accessible from Edinburgh and surrounding areas. Working as part of a multi‑skilled site team, you’ll support the safe and efficient day‑to‑day running of the quarry, operating both fixed and mobile plant to help deliver high‑quality materials to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate fixed and mobile plant including loading shovels and dump trucks
  • Carry out weighbridge duties
  • Support daily and weekly production targets
  • Ensure plant operators safely, efficiently and remain available
  • Perform routine plant inspections and report or act on defects
  • Assist with basic plant maintenance
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, environmental and quality compliance
  • Keep site housekeeping to a high standard
  • Communicate issues clearly to the Supervisor and wider team

The Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a motivated individual with experience in an industrial, factory or similar operational environment, who takes pride in their work and communicates effectively with others. You’ll be keen to learn, adaptable in your approach, and motivated to develop both operational and supervisory skills. Experience within a quarry or asphalt plant would be beneficial but isn’t essential — we’re committed to supporting and training the right person.

To succeed in this role we would expect a candidate to evidence:

  • Knowledge of Plant Shovel License – desirable
  • Good time‑keeping – flexible as to the Units requirements
  • Good communication skills – bringing problems to the attention of Line Management
  • Previous experience in mobile Plant operations
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • IT Literate
